Tonearm - Revelation II

Tonarm Rev1 blank.jpg

The design of this tonearm follows the KISS principle — Keep It Straight and Simple. Every individual component of a tonearm exhibits its own resonance frequency and can introduce potentially disruptive energy into the system as a whole.

One of the key challenges during development was to minimize these influences while still ensuring ease of operation and long-term mechanical stability. The minimalist design is intended to define a controlled and deliberate path for energy dissipation, allowing unwanted resonances to be efficiently guided away from the cartridge and signal path.

Material

A defining feature of this 9-inch tonearm is its arm tube, precision-machined from a solid billet and extending seamlessly from the headshell to the counterweight mount. Manufactured to the highest tolerances, this arm tube is available in two distinct material options:

  • Aluminium, delivering a dynamic, powerful, and energetic sonic character.

  • Magnesium, offering ultimate resolution, exceptional fine detail, and a truly three-dimensional soundstage of the highest quality.

Energy flow management

A central aspect of our turntable technology is the controlled dissipation of energy, particularly resonances. During the tracing process, the stylus generates a considerable amount of energy, which is transmitted both through the platter and bearing, as well as through the tonearm and its mounting base.

Any reflection of vibrational energy can lead to significant cancellations, ultimately limiting musical expression and dynamic flow. The Revelation II tonearm provides a precisely defined and controlled path for energy dissipation. Its unconventional single-sided bearing design was developed to clearly define and secure this energy flow, ensuring optimal resonance control and sonic integrity.

High-precision bearings

We employ six ultra-precisely selected micro ball bearings manufactured to Japanese precision standards. The adjustment of bearing play in ball-bearing systems inherently involves certain compromises. For reasons of quality, we therefore deliberately avoid the commonly used adjustable bearing designs. Instead, we employ a system in which the bearings are assembled into precisely matched bearing sets of three bearings each and fastened under defined high preload.

This approach results in exceptionally low friction while simultaneously ensuring extremely stable and controlled guidance of the tonearm. Only with this system are all individual balls within the bearings loaded evenly.

Despite the considerable manufacturing effort involved, we deliberately chose this solution. Tolerances of less than one micrometer must be maintained. The longevity and mechanical robustness of such a bearing system are truly exceptional.

Signal wiring

Our entire cable range, including the internal tonearm wiring, is developed by us and manufactured exclusively for Toneart Audio in Germany. We use high-purity copper conductors with an ultra-thin Teflon insulation to ensure the optimal transmission of the finest musical signals.

An additional cryogenic treatment further refines the transmission quality. Mechanically stable cartridge pins provide secure handling and long-term contact reliability. This cable is also available by the meter.

Surfaces

The aluminium tonearm is available in the following surface finishes:

  • Black or natural anodized aluminium, with custom colours available upon request

  • High-precision polished aluminium

  • 24-carat gold

  • Palladium

  • Black nickel

  • Painted finishes

For technical reasons, the magnesium tonearm tube is exclusively available in a painted finish.

The bearing housings can be specified in either polished or satin-finished stainless steel.
